Home » City of Riga: Mobility Lab
Riga applies a Mobility Lab to test and co-design innovative technological solutions in urban mobility and public transport to ensure that seniors aren’t “left behind” with technical progress.
The pilot aims to improve offer for green mobility services and solutions to the user group (seniors) as well as to raise seniors’ awareness and ability to use contemporary green urban mobility technologies. City of Riga is developing and piloting a Mobility Lab concept for testing, data-processing, discussing and co-designing various mobility solutions, services and technologies related to senior-friendly urban green mobility and public transport (PT).
The Mobility Lab unites public authorities (PAs), seniors and experts, and will facilitate at least 3 public co-design sessions. In the first run the Mobility Lab worked on solutions how to adapt urban public space to better facilitate different modes of green mobility, meeting the needs of senior population. Further, it focused on fostering use of green mobility services among seniors in the city. Ultimately, the potential of blockchain technology application in PT will be assessed – analysing the capability of this technology to save boarding time for users, generate valuable data for PAs, implement blockchain-based payment systems, etc. The process will lead to a cross-institutional roadmap for technological innovation in green urban mobility and PT.
